Peninsula Challenge set for March 14!

After many years of discussion in the Peninsula’s wrestling community, the Peninsula Wrestling Association (PWA) is proud to announce the first annual “Peninsula Challenge” USA Wrestling dual meet between the Peninsula AA and Peninsula AAA to showcase the Peninsula’s best wrestlers on 1 mat!   The coaches for the Peninsula AA are Mike Faus and Chris Wiatt, while the Peninsula AAA will be coached by Ron McRae and Maurice Ward.   Veteran Peninsula USAW referees for the event, and donating their time, are Jim Diehl, Marcus Johnson, and Wayne Smith.

The meet will be held at Phoebus High School on Wednesday, Mar 14th in the “The Pit” and team introductions will begin at 7:30pm.  General admission is $5.00, and kids 10 and under are free.

PWA is grateful for the efforts of the area coaches that helped organize the event, generate interest, and bring the Peninsula Challenge to life.

Come out and support your wrestlers and congratulate them with for their well earned success on the mat.  Eighteen of them are seniors and preparing to step off into the next phase of the their lives!

6:20pm – Weigh-ins
6:50pm – AAA Warm-up on the mat
7:10pm – AA Warm-up on the mat
7:30pm – Introduce the contestants (Classic dual style with both team lined up on side of the mat)
7:40pm – Wrestling begins

The three high school divisions have been announced for the 2012 Virginia Duals. The 32nd Virginia Duals will feature 22 college teams and 48 high schools along with a middle school tournament.

The high school and college teams have been released. Inquiries are still sought for the middle school division.

Middle School Clubs sought for Virginia Duals

Once again, the Virginia Duals will have a Middle School field within the Friday and Saturday of the event. This year, there are openings for eight teams, but we’re looking for six more as two are already filled.

Virginia Duals Kids National Championship

The Virginia Duals Wrestling Club and the Peninsula Wrestling Association are launching the Virginia Duals Kids National Championships to be held Sunday, January 15 at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va.

The event will take place on the very same mats where the Virginia Duals wrap up the day before.

This folkstyle wrestling tournament is USA Wrestling-sanctioned, meaning all participants must have USA Wrestling cards (to purchase, go to www.usawmembership.com). Cards WILL NOT be sold at the tournament.
